About

The popular Looking at Architecture program returns this spring. Visiting an array of significant properties, some rarely open to the public, the weekend offers a unique glimpse into the history and heritage of Yass. Among the properties opening their doors are two linked to the explorer, Hamilton Hume. Cliftonwood, built in 1841 on land owned by Hume, and the National Trust (NSW) property, Cooma Cottage, which was his home from 1840 until his death in 1873. They will also have a rare opportunity to see 1895 Highclere Farm – recently showcased on the ABC's Restoration Australia – and the contemporary off grid home and garden, Blackburn, as well as Old Duro (1840). As a special add on event*, on Friday afternoon the internationally recognised artist, Peter Crisp, will host afternoon tea at his Gallery, with funds raised going towards the restoration the 1939 art deco Liberty Theatre in Yass. This will be the chance to see a special exhibition of his work as well as designs for commissions for the Royal Family, including the King's Coronation.
