Drug ARM Street Outreach Service (SOS)

DRUG ARM is a charitable organisation that assists people (and their families) who have been harmed by alcohol or drug use. We do this through our street outreach vans, education in schools and the general community and an extensive resource centre. We have contact with over 50,000 people in need each year. Our vision: Reaching out; Reducing harm Our mission: Engage, Encourage, Empower; People and communities Our Street Outreach Services (SOS) and MOSHPIT are not government funded and rely on donations from companies, churches, groups and individuals so that they can continue to support the homeless and at-risk in our communities. The goal of DRUG ARM's Street Outreach Service (SOS) is to provide first contact to the homeless, those who are at-risk, and people struggling with alcohol and drug issues - to deliver empathy and support, provide a safe context for sharing personal information and reinforce positive coping skills and help-seeking behaviours. Our teams of volunteers work on the streets around Australia providing information over a warm cup of tea, coffee or Milo. They issue referral cards and distribute brochures to many local services including accommodation, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, youth centres, counselling services, job network information and other DRUG ARM programs.
