About

The Castlemaine Documentary Festival (CDoc) returns this winter for a jam-packed weekend of bold, boundary-pushing nonfiction cinema. Audiences will experience eleven standout Australian and international documentaries, including world and national premieres, that surprise, provoke, and connect. This year's theme, Truth – you couldn't make this stuff up, plays out across a lineup that is intimate and epic, political and playful. From AI-generated storytelling to clairvoyants, Cold War jazz conspiracies to prison musicals, the films explore reality in all its messy brilliance. Visitors will also get to experience Q and As, live music, themed parties, and LOCALS — CDoc's much-loved celebration of regional short films — and you've got a cultural weekend not to be missed. Highlights include Man With a Movie Camera (1929), Dziga Vertov's silent masterpiece with a new live score by beloved band, Underground Lovers Moda Discoteca; Blue Road, a powerful portrait of literary icon Edna O'Brien; and Soundtrack to a Coup D'etat, a tense unravelling of Cold War conspiracies, underscored by a revolutionary jazz soundtrack.
