About

Experience the magic of live music with the Wangaratta Symphony Orchestra at the Wangaratta Performing Arts and Convention Centre. Join the orchestra for an unforgettable afternoon of music from the " New World". The classical masterpiece by Dvorak, his 9th Symphony, called the "New World " symphony, will be the feature of the program. After four years of performances, this is the orchestra's most challenging work to date. Written in 1893, The "New World" symphony blends European classical traditions with folk music. Dvorak composed this piece while he was in USA as the director of the National Conservatory of Music from 1892-1895, expressing some of his feeling about being in this new place. Other items for the afternoon program will include music from other "new world" composers such as Stravinski's 'The Firebird Suite', Sousa's 'Liberty Bell', a Cohan Medley and a compilation of well-known themes from George Gershwin, such as 'Porgy and Bess', 'I Got Rhythm' and 'Rhapsody in Blue'. The concert will also feature soloists from within the orchestra, one playing a movement from Mozart's piano concerto No 21, and another Dvorak's 'Silent Woods' for cello. Whether you're a long-time music lover or new to orchestral music, our talented musicians bring every piece to life with passion and precision. So, come and enjoy world-class music, and create lasting memories. Entry Cost All tickets $10 - children under 5 free, student prices and adult tickets.
